Major Bantam Majeur Champions!!

The Crush Major Bantam team won a long awaited gold medal as a result of its participation at the Winterfest Tournament in Cornwall from January 28-31, 2016. The team participated in 4 other tournaments this season and was finalists at 3 of them.  This time, the players were not going to back down and came on strong to leave as the Winterfest’s Major Bantam champions!
The tournament began Thursday January 28 when the Crush first met up with the Leitrim Hawks and won 4-1.  On Friday night, the team played the Pembroke Kings and secured a 7-1 win.  In order to make it to the quarter finals, the Crush first played the Smith Falls Bears early in the day on Saturday and beat them 2-1.  The team then played the Deep River Knights on Saturday night and won the game by a score of 5-2. 
Early Sunday morning, the players had to be in top shape for a tough day ahead. They first played the Metcalfe Jets in the semi –finals.  This game ended 3-2 and the Crush then proceeded to the final against the West Ottawa Golden Knights, top team in the regular season standings.   The Crush Major Bantam managed to score the first three goals in the final game and kept a lead that the Knights never managed to tie. Towards the end of the third period, the Crush was leading 6-3.  The Knights took advantage of a power play, removed their goalie and scored 2 goals within seconds.  The last minute of play seemed like eternity for the spectators in the stands but the Crush finally won the game by a final score of 6-5 and became Major Bantam champions of this tournament.

The Crush Major Bantam is playing its last game of the regular season on February 6 and will be proceeding to the playoffs soon after.  Good luck to all!  
Le Crush Bantam majeur a décroché un premier championnat cette saison suite à sa participation au Winterfest Tournament tenu à Cornwall du 28 au 31 janvier 2016.  Le Crush, qui a participé à 4 autres tournois cette saison, a récolté 3 titres de finalistes.   Cette fois, le Crush Bantam majeur n’a reculé devant rien pour s’emparer enfin de la médaille d’or et l’équipe fut couronnée championne du tournoi dans sa catégorie.
Ce tournoi a débuté jeudi le 28 janvier alors que le Crush a défait le Leitrim Hawks par la marque de 4-1.  Le lendemain soir, l’équipe s’est mesurée aux Kings de Pembroke et a connu une écrasante victoire de 7-1.  Le samedi, le Crush Bantam majeur a réussi à vaincre les Bears de Smith Falls 2-1 pour passer en quart de finale le samedi soir contre les Knights de Deep River.  Cette partie s’est terminée par un pointage de 5-2.
Tôt le dimanche matin, les joueurs devaient être en pleine forme pour une journée difficile qui les attendait.  Ils devaient d’abord affronter les Jets de Metcalfe en semi finale avant de passer à la grande finale en après-midi.  Le Crush a réussi à vaincre les Jets 3-2.  C’est ainsi que l’équipe est passée à la finale contre les Golden Knights de West Ottawa qui sont bons premiers au classement de la saison régulière.   Le Crush a ouvert  la marque en comptant les 3 premiers buts du match.  Les Golden Knights ont répliqué mais le Crush a gardé une avance que les Golden Knights ne sont pas parvenus à  égaliser par la suite.  En fin de partie, le Crush dominait  6-3 mais les Golden Knights ont profité d’un désavantage numérique et ont retiré leur gardien ce qui leur a permis de marquer à deux reprises en peu de temps avant  la fin.  Les dernières secondes ont paru une éternité pour les spectateurs dans l’estrade mais c’est enfin le Crush qui a remporté les grands honneurs de ce tournoi dans la catégorie Bantam majeur par le compte final de 6-5!
